There is no adjusting later, which is precisely why the measure outweighs every other step in the job. Our heavy standard is 3/8 inch tempered. It hangs true, feels substantial when you pull the handle, and does not shudder when somebody shuts the door. Fabrication happening under our own roof means the person who read your walls also watched your glass get made and will be the one carrying it up your hallway. Install day tends to be calmer than people picture. Drop cloths go down before the first panel comes through the door. Layout gets marked on the wall next, since anchors must land where they can hold and a bit going into finished tile does not get a second attempt. Hardware is mounted and checked true while the glass is still on the truck. Then the panels come in, and anything tall gets a person on each end, no exceptions. With the glass standing, the door is tuned until it closes square and stays put rather than swinging back open by itself. Sealing comes last. The crew walks the finished enclosure with you before loading up, shows you how it is meant to be used, and tells you how long to leave the silicone dry.
To be plain about scope: our trade is glass. Tile setting, plumbing, and steam generators go to other trades, and we would rather you use specialists for that work. Catching that is the entire purpose of the measure. We log how far off each surface runs and in which direction, then the panel is cut to that shape instead of to a tidy rectangle your house never had. Where a small margin still has to be closed, it is closed at the wall with hardware made for the job, not by leaving a void and packing it with sealant.
