Semi-Frameless Shower Doors For Pontiac Bathrooms
A slim frame around the perimeter and clean glass where you actually look. Semi-frameless gives a Pontiac bathroom most of the frameless look with a structure that is far more forgiving of an older opening.
The Middle Ground, And Why It Exists
Semi-frameless sits between a fully framed enclosure and a frameless one. There is a slim metal channel at the perimeter, usually where the glass meets the wall and along the bottom, but the door edge and the visible face of the glass are left clean. From a few feet back, most people read it as frameless. Up close you see a thin line of metal doing a job. That job is real. The channel carries part of the load and takes up small variations in the wall, which means the glass does not have to be as heavy and the hardware does not have to be anchored as aggressively. In a house where the tile is already set and the walls are what they are, that flexibility is worth something. It is a practical answer, not a compromise you settle for.
Pontiac has a wide spread of housing, from established neighborhoods near downtown and the lakes to newer subdivisions on the outer edges of town. Semi-frameless shows well across that whole range. In an older bath it works with the opening instead of demanding a perfect one. In a newer bath it lands the clean, current look without the weight and the hardware of a full frameless build. Plenty of homeowners walk into the showroom set on frameless, see the two side by side, and choose semi-frameless once they understand where the metal actually sits. We are not going to talk you out of frameless if that is what you want. We will just make sure you have seen both before you commit, because the difference is much easier to judge in person than in a photo.

Slim Perimeter Frame
The metal is kept where it does the most good and the least harm, against the wall and along the base. The door edge and the wide face of the glass stay open. You get a clean look with a channel quietly absorbing the small imperfections that every real bathroom wall has.
Easier On Old Walls
A frameless panel has to meet the tile exactly. A semi-frameless channel gives you a little tolerance to work with, which is useful in a Pontiac house that has been standing and settling a long time. It means fewer compromises on the glass and a tighter looking result along the wall line.
Glass And Finish Choices
Semi-frameless does not limit your options. Clear, low-iron, frosted and rain-textured glass are all available, and hardware and channel finishes include matte black, brushed gold, chrome and nickel. Ask about the full range at the showroom, where you can hold a sample up against your tile in real light.

Where Semi-Frameless Makes The Most Sense
It earns its keep on a few specific openings. A tub with a fixed panel and a swinging door beside it. A shower where one wall is noticeably out of true and a channel can absorb that honestly instead of leaving a wedge-shaped gap. A second or third bathroom where you want the upgrade to look right without putting the heaviest glass in the house into a guest bath. It is also a good call when the tile is staying put. Frameless hardware wants solid backing behind that tile, and on a wall you are not opening back up, a perimeter channel spreads the load rather than concentrating it in a few points.
The process is the same as everything else we build. A free in-home measure, glass and hardware you pick out in person, fabrication to your exact opening, and installation by our own crew. Nothing goes to an outside shop at any stage. Pontiac is about thirteen miles from the showroom at 42624 Van Dyke Ave in Sterling Heights, so the drive is short in either direction, and we are open Mon-Fri 9-5 and Sat 10-2. Bring a photo of the bathroom on your phone. Half the questions people are trying to ask get answered in about a minute once we can see the opening.

Common questions.
Do you install semi-frameless shower doors in Pontiac?
Yes. We build and install across Oakland County from our showroom at 42624 Van Dyke Ave in Sterling Heights, about thirteen miles east of Pontiac. It starts with a free in-home measure at your house, with no pressure and nothing to sign that day. Call (586) 315-8900 or text (586) 800-9481 and we will set it up around your schedule.
How is semi-frameless different from a framed door?
A framed enclosure wraps metal around every edge of every panel, including the door itself. Semi-frameless keeps a channel at the perimeter but leaves the door edge and the face of the glass bare. The visual difference is significant. A framed unit reads as a metal box with glass in it. Semi-frameless reads as glass with a thin outline around the outside.
Is the glass thinner than frameless glass?
It can be, because the perimeter channel shares the structural work. Fully frameless panels have to be heavy since nothing else is supporting them, and 3/8 inch tempered is our standard there. On semi-frameless the channel takes part of that job. Either way you are getting tempered safety glass, and we will tell you exactly what is going into your opening.
Will hard water spot a semi-frameless door?
Metro Detroit water is hard everywhere, Pontiac included, and it leaves minerals on any glass surface it dries on. The channel itself wipes down easily. For the glass, easy-clean options are available and they make routine cleaning much faster. A squeegee kept inside the shower is still the simplest upgrade you can make to any enclosure we build.
Can I see semi-frameless and frameless side by side?
Yes, and we recommend it. Come to the Sterling Heights showroom during hours, Mon-Fri 9-5 or Sat 10-2, and look at both with the hardware finishes you are considering. Photos flatten the difference between them. In person you can see exactly where the metal sits and decide which one you actually want in your own bathroom.
